Return of Return of the Jedi Rocks

Shown at the Special Screening of Return of the Jedi on May 4th, Director Kyle Newman’s short but brilliant film makes its full debut, as promised, on EW.Com:

EW approached filmmaker Kyle Newman (Fanboys) with a simple proposition: Will you make us a short film that collects famous voices talking about Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi and their feelings about the film as it reaches its 30th anniversary?

After sweet-talking him with promises of no money and too-little time, we mentioned that he was our only hope and, weirdly, that worked. The result is  The Return of Return of the Jedi: 30 Years and Counting, which shows elite geeks — among them Kevin Smith, Seth Green, Chris Hardwick, Jaime King, Topher Grace, Fall Out Boy, Eli Roth, and Jason Mewes — revisiting the movie in which tribal Teddy Ruxpins put down an Imperial invasion force with rocks, logs, and other Gilligan’s Island-esque props. Who saw that coming?

Without further ado, The Return of Return of the Jedi, which you should share with friends and strangers and do so early and often — we can only post it here for 48 hours.

Josh Solo?

Hey count me in with this one.

E! Online report:

J.J. Abrams, feel free to keep it in the family when casting Stars Wars: Episode VII!

After it was announced that Disney would be releasing a new film in the hit franchise, with Star Trek and Lost visionary Abrams at the helm, speculation soon began on which actor could possibly fill Harrison Ford‘s iconic role of Han Solo (presuming a Han Solo of a different age is needed).

One name that keeps popping up? Josh Holloway!

We chatted with the Lost star at ABC and Disney’s International Upfront in Burbank, Calif., where he was promoting his new CBS drama, Intelligence—and we had to know if would ever reteam with Abrams to take on the legendary role that so many fans are dream-casting him in!

“Matter of fact, I just did a movie where I almost tackled him. I stuffed him in a car handcuffed,” Holloway says of Ford before letting out a huge laugh when we asked if the role of Han Solo is one he’d ever want to tackle. “Yeah, sure, I would love that. It’d be a blast. I’d love to do that.”

Rebels

Glad to finally get confirmation of this.

It’s time to join the Rebellion.

A key era in the history of George Lucas’ Star Wars universe will be explored in the new Star Wars Rebels animated series, premiering in the fall of 2014 as a one-hour special on Disney Channel and continuing as a show on Disney XD.

“The entire team at Lucasfilm has provided extraordinary creativity and innovation for over three decades, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the expansive and imaginative world of Star Wars to Disney XD’s viewers,” said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer for Disney Channels Worldwide.

Rebels is the first project since the announcement in March that Lucasfilm was taking a new direction in its animation, which led to the cancelation of Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars after five seasons.

The new series takes place between the events of the final movie prequel, Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith, and the first Star Wars film in 1977, subtitled A New Hope.

Rhys-Meyers a SW7 Cast Possibility?

Well, according to the Latino Review web site:

Disney is working to produce a film that will continue the story of where 1983′s Episode VI: Return of the Jedi left off.  Production on the seventh film in the series will start next year in the UK. Episode VII is expected to hit theaters in 2015.

Aside from the return (in an unknown capacity) of stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher (WE first broke Harrison Ford coming back), not much else is known.

My right hand man El Mayimbe recently heard that a young man who has only been in one major franchise movie (in a co-starring role) was in talks to star in the new Star Wars film.

Now, my source has told me more information…

This is a name that has been thrown around a lot, especially since he has a relationship with J.J. Abrams. He appeared in Mission Impossible: III, directed by Abrams.

Sounds like he already has it.

He’s none other than…

The Tudors (2007-2010) star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Michael Kaplan Joins SW7 Production

Courtesy of IGN:

Michael Kaplan, the man behind Star Trek Into Darkness’ distinctive costume designs, has revealed that he’s joined the production crew of Disney’s forthcoming Star Wars sequel.

Talking with Buzzfeed, the famed designer whose credits include Blade Runner, Star Trek (2009), and Fight Club, explained: “I’ve just learned I’ll be working on the new Star Wars movie, again with J.J. Everything just got formalized [last week], I haven’t even had the chance to talk to anyone about it all other than to be told ‘welcome aboard.’

It’s a little too soon to know exactly what’s in store but I’m excited, absolutely, to get to work on another prestigious sci-fi series.”

Not too long ago, Patton Oswalt riffed on his idea for a great plot for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII film on Parks and Recreation. Now, it’s got a whole bunch of…”digital effects” that turn it into the film we all deserve.

A Gloucestershire Hope

This is Gloucestershire report:

Film fans are all a flutter after learning the new Stars Wars film will be filmed in the UK.

And Gloucestershire’s tourist attractions are hoping the force will be with them when Hollywood is scouting for locations.View details

Could the aircraft hangers at Staverton be used? Or the old underground burial mound Belas Knapp?

Manager of Puzzlewood, near Coleford, Helen O’Kane said: “They haven’t approached us yet, but we would love to welcome them here, especially Ewan McGregor.”

He played a young Obi-Wan in the recent Star Wars films and filmed Jack the Giant Slayer at the Forest of Dean woods in 2011.

Helen said: “That really put us on the map with the film industry and we have had someone scouting here recently who was very high profile but I can’t say who.

“When they do film here, most of the crew stay locally and use the pubs so a massive production like that would be really good for the area.”

Star Wars Returns to the UK

StarWars.Com announce:

Lucasfilm announced today that production of Star Wars: Episode VII will take place in the United Kingdom. All of the six previous live-action Star Wars movies have included UK production in such famed studios as Elstree, Shepperton, Leavesden, Ealing and Pinewood Studios.

Star Wars Returns to the UK

“We’ve devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I’m thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm. “Speaking from my own longstanding connection to the UK with films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun and recently War Horse, it’s very exciting to be heading back.”

Earlier this year, representatives from Lucasfilm met with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, in London to establish an agreement to produce Star Wars in the U.K. “I am delighted that Star Wars is coming back to Britain. Today’s announcement that the next Star Wars film will be shot and produced in the UK is great news for fans and our creative industries,” Osborne said today.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Michael Arndt and is scheduled for a 2015 release.
